Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti says his club have to help Lorenzo Insigne deal with responsibility as ‘too much of it isn’t good.’

Injuries and suspensions have seen Insigne play just half of Napoli’s 16 Serie A games since the turn of the year, amidst speculation the two will part at the end of the season.

“He’s a player who feels very responsible,” Ancelotti told reporters.

“He’s an important player and the captain of Napoli: responsibility is an important motivation, but too much of it isn’t good.

“We have to help him manage it, me first. Lorenzo was born in Naples, grew up at this club and is now captain.

“We’ll do everything to help him manage this responsibility he’s been given and that he must control because it can be an important motivation, but if it becomes excessive then it’s no longer good.”

The former Milan Coach was then asked about Amin Younes’ recent renaissance.

“He’s played very little, but now he’s recovering after his Achilles tendon injury,” he added.

“He’s a great talent, but his performances and recovery are absolutely not linked to the fate of Insigne.”
