Saudi side Al Ahli are set to sign Gabri Veiga after Napoli had agreed on the midfielder’s transfer fee with Celta Vigo last week.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Celta and the U21 Spain international have a deal with Al Ahli, so the transfer is expected to be completed soon.

Other sources in Italy, including Sportitalia, confirm Veiga is set to join Al Ahli.

Veiga had emerged as a top transfer target for Napoli, who reportedly agreed on the player’s transfer fee last week.

However, the Partenopei had not reached an agreement with the player’s entourage with ‘bureaucratic’ details still pending before finalising the deal between the two sides.

Former Napoli coach Rafa Benitez, now in charge of Celta, had confirmed Veiga was close to joining the Partenopei last week, urging fans of the Spanish clubs to be ‘realistic.’

Napoli had agreed to pay €36m including add-ons to sign the Spaniard, but will be forced to look elsewhere for midfield reinforcements in the last eight days of the summer transfer window.
