Piotr Zielinski

Napoli and Poland international midfielder Piotr Zielinski asked to come off during today’s game with Empoli, suffering from respiratory problems.

The incident occurred just over 16 minutes into the Serie A match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

Zielinski was seen running to the touchline and telling the medical staff he was having trouble breathing properly.

He was holding on to his neck, coughing and gesturing that he was struggling to get air in.

After a few minutes, he put on a coat and was taken into the dressing room for further treatment.

Lorenzo Insigne substituted Zielinski at the 20th minute.

Zielinski contracted COVID-19 in October 2020.

This is another unfortunate development for Napoli, who have suffered from a series of injuries in recent months.

Hirving Lozano was able to start today, despite needing surgery to reconstruct a chipped tooth that he sustained when colliding with Leicester City player Wilfred Ndidi in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

  1. Getting a filling repaired is not exactly ‘surgery’, but hey, don’t let me make the news less dramatic.

  2. Even though 98% of Serie A players are clot shotted, this will be passed of as another coincidence and nothing to do with the jibs.
