Dries Mertens’ Napoli extension may be moving closer, after a meeting between the club and his representatives.

It was reported yesterday that the Belgian winger would be offered a deal running until 2020, following interest this summer from a number of clubs.

Today, Sky reports that the player’s agent, Soren Lerby, sent one of his staff Steinar Dietz to meet with sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli and Edo de Laurentiis, the club’s vice-President at Castelvolturno.

The news outlet states that President Aurelio De Laurentiis rejected a €30m bid from Wolfsburg this summer, and is keen to tie Mertens down for at the foreseeable future.

The patron is in the United States, so could not attend the meeting, but an extension has reportedly been offered, and the Partenopei are said to be optimistic that it will be accepted.

The President will try to get the deal done at the next meeting, which will also serve as a rapprochement after he threatened to sue Lerby over Inter links.
