Not just Lazio, but also Napoli are interested in Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri, facing competition from Villarreal and Sevilla.
Reports in Spain and Sky Sports UK suggest Shaqiri’s future could be decided over the course of this week.
Sevilla and Villarreal have long been seeking a loan, while the Swiss international told the Corriere dello Sport that he has been “following Lazio for a long time, they are a top team. In general, due to my characteristics, I like to play more attacking football and Maurizio Sarri practices it. It would be intriguing.”
Lazio are not the only Serie A sides keeping a close eye on the situation, as now Napoli have also been put in the running for the 29-year-old.
Their interest intensified after Diego Demme sustained a knee ligament injury during a pre-season friendly match, and he could require surgery.
Shaqiri’s contract with Liverpool only runs to June 2022 and he has made it very clear that he wants to leave Anfield.
“I told Liverpool that I feel ready for a new challenge. They accepted my wish and will seriously consider the offers that will come. They will not stop me,” he confirmed.
It’s reported Shaqiri would be available for circa €15m.
The Swiss player is no stranger to Serie A, having briefly played for Inter in 2015 before moving on to Stoke City for €17m.
