Even though sporting director Riccardo Bigon recently suggested that the San Paolo side will not be taking any further part in the winter transfer window once Eduardo Vargas arrives from Universidad de Chile, La Repubblica is one of a number of outlets implying that his words are merely a strategy.

The club are thought to be interested in picking up former Udinese and Juventus midfielder Candreva from Cesena this January, someone that President Aurelio De Laurentiis is interested in due to his positional flexibility as a footballer.

It is understood that Santana, who has struggled to make an impact at Napoli this season, is likely to be included in any deal for Candreva. Cesena held talks with the Argentine in the summer before his free transfer from Fiorentina to the Partenopei.

However, where Napoli are reportedly interested in a loan-swap involving the players, they find a barrier in Cesena President Igor Campedelli’s public stance on the move.

“Candreva has incredible potential, an exchange with Napoli is very difficult. He has done well in the last period and we will not accept a loan, but only a co-ownership or an outright purchase.”
