Napoli are working to sign a new forward as they prepare to lose both Dries Mertens and Matteo Politano, and they’ve started talks with VfL Wolfsburg for Josip Brekalo.

It’s been a confusing transfer window for the Partenopei as president Aurelio De Laurentiis made it clear that he wanted to significantly reduce the wage bill. Mertens’ contract is unlikely to be renewed and Kalidou Koulibaly could also be sold, concerning the fans. Despite this, Napoli are still working on a number of signings and are now lining up another possible deal.

As reported by TuttoMercatoWeb, Napoli and Wolfsburg have started negotiations regarding a possible deal for Brekalo, who spent the season just gone on loan with Torino. The Granata wanted to make his stay permanent but the player wanted Champions League football, something the Partenopei can provide.

The Bundesliga side value Brekalo at around €10m and talks are expected to progress over the coming weeks.
