Napoli are in negotiations with Galatasaray for Brazilian centre-back Marcao, claim Sportitalia, after he was sent off for headbutting his own teammate.

The talks are based on a loan deal with option to buy at the end of the season.

Marcao hit the headlines – among other things – during the Super Lig season opener against Giresunspor last week.

An hour into the game, he suddenly attacked his teammate Kerem Akturkoglu, headbutting him and throwing punches.

The other Galatasaray players dived in to tear them apart and VAR prompted a straight red card, with an eight-game ban inflicted too.

The 25-year-old has been in Turkey since January 2019, previously playing in Portugal for Chaves and Rio Ave, and Athletico Paranaense in Brazil.

The tall and powerful defender would be the heir to Kostas Manolas, who is desperate to return home to Greece with Olympiacos.

It is reported that talks will continue over the next few days.
