There are fears Napoli midfielder Diego Demme suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during today’s friendly match.

The German international only played for 16 minutes when he was brought down by a strong tackle from a Pro Vercelli player.

After several minutes of treatment, he was carried off by two members of the medical staff.

A statement confirmed an injury to the right knee and more tests will be performed tomorrow, suggesting possible ligament damage.

However, the report emerging from Sky Sport Italia this evening is that medics fear it is anterior cruciate ligament damage.

That would be devastating and could rule Demme out of action for three to six months.

He only joined Napoli in January 2020, making a €10.25m move from RB Leipzig.

The 29-year-old made 35 competitive appearances for the Partenopei last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

Napoli won the friendly 1-0 against Pro Vercelli thanks to a Victor Osimhen header.
