Napoli fans keep calm and look to Serie A history

Napoli are shattering records and managed 10 consecutive Serie A victories for the third time in their history, but comparing the statistics to previous campaigns shows why fans are keeping calm.

Luciano Spalletti’s men are eight points clear at the top of the table, as Milan were held 0-0 by Cremonese in second place.

It is true that after 14 rounds last term, Spalletti was in the same position, but with only a three-point lead, but their remarkable run isn’t vastly different.

At this stage of the season, Napoli were on 35 points, whereas currently they are on 38, so only a three-point surge.

This is a side that eventually finished third in the Serie A standings behind Milan and Inter.

The run of 10 consecutive victories was only achieved twice before, both under Maurizio Sarri from April to October 2017 (13 spanning two seasons) and from December 2017 to February 2018 (10 wins).

In both those campaigns, Sarri and Napoli took the silver medal.

Neapolitans are a notoriously superstitious people, so they more than anyone will not start celebrating the title just yet.
