There is mixed news for Napoli, because while Rennes seem to have dropped Kim Min-jae, they now face Premier League competition for the Fenerbahce defender, said to be Tottenham.

The South Korea international is first choice to replace Kalidou Koulibaly, who was sold to Chelsea over the weekend for €40m including add-ons.

He has a circa €20m release clause in his contract, something that both Napoli and Rennes are prepared to pay.

The Ligue 1 side had been the favourites because they got to Fenerbahce first and agreed terms, but did not work out personal terms with the player.

According to L’Equipe, Rennes have now turned their focus towards other targets, but it is not because of Napoli.

Instead, they fear competition from Premier League clubs, potentially more than one, and could not offer the same salary.

It’s rumoured the main contender is Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

That could also be a huge problem for Napoli, who are trying to slice down the salary bill, releasing top earners Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens and Koulibaly this summer.

Meanwhile, Leo Ostigard is having his Napoli medical today, completing the €5m plus add-ons move from Brighton and Hove Albion.

  1. Napoli will finish last in champions league group stage and might just take a conference league spot in Serie A with this kind of transfer recruitment…Mark my words
