Napoli face competition for Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri, as French sources suggest Olympique Lyonnais have been in talks for weeks.

The Partenopei have been pushing for the Italy international, fresh from winning the UEFA EURO 2020 trophy, throughout the summer.

New Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti already worked with him at Roma and is eager for a reunion.

However, now L’Equipe claims that Lyon are in advanced negotiations for Emerson Palmieri as well.

Footmercato had first mentioned the interest on August 1 and insist the talks continued behind the scenes for the last two weeks.

The first choice for Olympique Lyonnais had been Layvin Kurzawa of PSG, but Emerson is an increasingly strong candidate.

It was reported today in Italy that Chelsea could activate their option to extend his contract until June 2023, in so doing creating the circumstances for Emerson to leave on loan and not just a permanent transfer.

The asking price of circa €20m proved excessive for Napoli, considering his deal runs out at the end of this season.
