The story emerged in Mundo Deportivo this evening, suggesting Napoli had agreed a deal for €25m plus bonuses, just under the €30m release clause in his contract.
However, AS, Sportitalia and CalcioNapoli24, among others, felt they had jumped the gun a little, as there is simply a strong interest in the midfielder.
Villarreal are not prepared to negotiate, so will only release Fornals if Napoli play the full €30m clause.
It is still entirely possible the Partenopei will do that, having realised the bargain they got with Fabian Ruiz for €30m from Real Betis.
If anything, the news of strong Napoli interest should push Arsenal into action, as they have been heavily linked with Fornals.
