Napoli have loaned Andrea Dossena to Sunderland, as he passed a medical just days after failing one for Torino, and Marco Donadel to Verona.

The former Liverpool wing-back had been due to make a loan move to Torino last week, but the deal collapsed when he failed a medical due to a thigh problem.

Despite that injury – a lesion to the thigh muscle that will need at least three weeks to heal – Sunderland doctors considered Dossena fit enough to join them on a one-year deal.

There were reports Paolo Di Canio’s Premier League club signed Dossena on a permanent basis, but it has now been confirmed it's a one-year loan spell, because his Napoli contract expires in June 2014.

Sunderland have also secured a loan for Liverpool and Italy Under-21 striker Fabio Borini.

Meanwhile, Napoli also agreed to loan Donadel to Hellas Verona, but had to sprint in order to rush it through before the 22.00 UK time deadline.

Tonight Verona also signed Matteo Rubin on loan from Siena and Juan Manuel Iturbe on loan with option to buy from Porto.

At the last second, Genoa were able to sign goalkeeper Albano Bizzarri from Lazio.
