Napoli released a statement denying reports President Aurelio De Laurentiis contacted UEFA to discuss possibly replacing Juventus in the Champions League.

The Partenopei finished fifth in Serie A this season, missing out on the Champions League, which will have Inter, Milan, Atalanta and Juve.

However, with the Bianconeri potentially excluded from the tournament by UEFA due to the Super League controversy, Napoli would in theory be next in line to replace them.

“President Aurelio De Laurentiis did not contact UEFA regarding the possibility of entering into the next edition of the Champions League,” read a statement released by Napoli this evening.

“The rumour reported by Bein Sports is therefore entirely without foundation.”
