Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis puts pressure on Lorenzo Insigne, saying that ‘it’s his choice’ if he’s tired of Napoli and wants to leave.

The Italy winger’s contract at the Stadio Maradona expires in June 2022.

According to reports in Italy, Napoli haven’t scheduled a meeting with his agent yet, but the biggest issue could be that Insigne wants a pay rise, while Napoli could offer him a lower contract due to the impact of the COVID pandemic on the club’s finances.

De Laurentiis spoke about the future of Insigne after the unveiling of an exhibition about Diego Maradona in Naples.

“Insigne is a product of the academy and future depends on him,” De Laurentiis said.

“If he is tired of Napoli and wants to go around Europe, it’s his choice, not ours.”

According to a report of Il Corriere dello Sport, both Barcelona and Tottenham have contacted Insigne’s agent discussing a potential move of the 30-year-old.

However, official negotiations between the clubs have not begun yet and Insigne said two weeks ago that he is in no rush to discuss a new deal with the Partenopei as he only wants to focus on the Euros.

“I have no regrets, I’ve fulfilled my dreams to play for Napoli and be the captain of the team. I am more than happy. Now I am focused on the Euros and then I’ll talk to the club,” the Italy star said.
