Napoli released a statement insisting Jonathan de Guzman’s claims about the club, including of being punched by director of sport Cristiano Giuntoli, are “entirely false.”
De Guzman gave an interview to Dutch site De Voltkskrant, in which he made astonishing allegations about his time at Napoli.
He claimed the chief medic misdiagnosed a sports hernia, wouldn’t allow a second opinion and refused surgery, while he maintains there was a brawl with director Giuntoli after he refused a transfer to the Premier League.
“In response to recent comments made by Jonathan de Guzman to Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, SSC Napoli would like to stress that his version of the events in question, which took place over three years ago, is entirely false,” read a statement.
“The club reserves the right to protect its image and that of its employees via the appropriate legal channels.”
