Napoli have announced that Hirving ‘Chucky’ Lozano has tested positive for COVID-19 while in Mexico.

A statement was released this afternoon confirming the news, noting he had the swab during a trip back to his homeland for the Christmas break.

Lozano has been vaccinated and is asymptomatic.

He will see out the period of self-isolation in his home in Mexico until he has tested negative and is cleared to fly back to Italy.

It is another serious blow for Napoli, who already saw Fabian Ruiz and Lorenzo Insigne test positive this month.

Although the players are fully vaccinated, the new Omicron variant is proving far easier to spread and requires a booster shot to improve immunity.

The players who have tested positive despite being vaccinated are generally asymptomatic, so ensuring the virus is not as damaging to the body as if they had been unvaccinated.

Lozano has made 26 competitive appearances for Napoli so far this season, contributing three goals and three assists.
