The season is already over for Napoli star and Mexico international Hirving Lozano, who has been diagnosed with a serious knee sprain, but seems to have avoided ligament damage.

The winger was carried off the field after an awkward fall during the 1-0 win over Fiorentina at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday.

There were immediately concerns that he had damaged the anterior cruciate ligament or the collateral ligament.

However, a statement from Napoli’s medical staff today confirms he has a second degree sprain to the left knee, but there do not appear to be any ligament issues.

It still means the season is already over for Lozano, but it is overall a reassuring verdict considering he attended the Scudetto celebrations on crutches.

The 27-year-old has made 41 appearances for Napoli this season between Serie A and the Champions League, scoring four goals and providing four assists.

His contract only runs to June 2024, so the lack of a serious injury is also good news should Napoli wish to sell him this summer.
