Napoli are closing in on an agreement with Portuguese outfit Benfica for the transfer of former Ajax winger David Neres, after a meeting between the player’s agent and Partenopei sporting director Giovanni Manna on Wednesday night.

Napoli closing in on Neres agreement

Neres’s agent was in Rome on Wednesday evening to hold talks with representatives from Napoli. Coincidentally, he also represents porto forward Galeno, and also spoke with Juventus about a possible move the day before.

According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Napoli have budgeted for an investment in the region of €25m for a new forward this summer.

Benfica are pushing for an upfront fee of €25m for Neres this summer, as well as an additional €5m in bonuses. Napoli, meanwhile, are trying to see if they can fetch any last-minute discounts on the deal.

Thursday’s report suggests that there is already an agreement in principle between the player and club.

Napoli are reportedly prepared to offer the Brazilian trickster a five-year contract, running until 2029, with an annual salary of around €3m per season.
