Napoli can no longer break Juventus’ 102-point Serie A record

After the 4-0 loss to Milan on Sunday evening, Luciano Spalletti can no longer break the record for most points gained in a single Serie A season set by Antonio Conte and Juventus in 2013-14.

With their 71 point haul so far, Napoli still have a 16-point lead at the top of the league standings and, at this stage, it would take a catastrophic set of circumstances for them not to lift the Scudetto,

However, with 10 games to go, they are no longer mathematically able to break Juve’s record of 102 points from a 38-game season.

Under Conte nine seasons ago, the Bianconeri set a record of 33 wins, three draws and two losses for the season.

After Sunday’s result against Milan, Napoli have now lost three times in the league and have already drawn twice, and whilst it is still technically possible to hit 33 wins, it is now impossible to clear the 102-point benchmark set by Juve.

If Spalletti and his team were to get maximum points from all 10 of their remaining Serie A fixtures, they would wind up on a still-impressive 101 points.

The possibility of becoming centurions is still on the cards, and they would still be only the team to achieve that feat in the division’s history.

There are, of course, still commitments in Europe to contend with, and the recent injury to Victor Osimhen suggests that knocks and fitness could start to have an impact on what has been a long, albeit impressive season.

Up next for the Partenopei in the league is a visit to the Stadio Ettore Giardiniero to face Lecce on Friday evening.
