New Napoli signing Mathias Olivera suffered a knee injury while on international duty with Uruguay on Saturday night and although he may take a month to recover, he won’t need to undergo surgery.

The former Getafe man completed his medical with the Partenopei in May. He was forced off the pitch in tears in a friendly encounter with Panama last weekend.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Olivera won’t need to undergo surgery and will take circa a month to recover from his injury. He should be available when the Partenopei’s pre-season retreat begins at the beginning of July. The exams underwent by the defender in Uruguay highlighted a knee ligament sprain.

The 24-year-old may undergo further medical tests upon returning to Italy at the start of July.
