There were reports that Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis asked for their Serie A match against Fiorentina to be rescheduled, as it was organised for an ‘unlucky’ day.

The fixture was announced for Friday May 17 and that sent shivers down Neapolitan spines, because it is the Italian equivalent of Friday the 13th – the date that brings back luck.

According to La Repubblica newspaper, President De Laurentiis was so upset that he requested the Lega Serie A move it to Saturday May 18 instead.

It is reported that Lega Serie A President Lorenzo Casini even called Fiorentina directors to ask if they were amenable to a change, but the answer was negative.

Napoli resist unlucky date

There is a very good reason why they could not accept that switch, because Fiorentina are going to Athens for the Conference League Final against Olympiacos on May 29.

They are eager to give themselves as much time as possible to prepare for that showdown, especially having lost the Conference League Final last year.

  1. Ah hang on a minute. They way the team is playing at the moment it wouldnt matter what day it was played. Very poor performance today and not even to score. Hard to say how things are going to turn out for next season.
