New Venezia signing Luis Nani admits he had ‘a very good start’ thanks to an assist within one minute and 55 seconds of his debut against Empoli.

The Portuguese veteran arrived as a free agent only yesterday and made an immediate impact, setting up David Okereke for the equaliser at the Stadio Penzo.

“It’s a very good start!” Nani laughed on DAZN.

“The team played well, we know this was an important moment for us, we need to pick up as many points as possible. We could’ve won here today, but it’s a long path ahead and we know that we can do much better.

Serie A | Venezia 1-1 Empoli: Nani makes immediate impact

“All our players did better in the second half, there was more aggression and it paid off. The equaliser boosted our confidence, but we didn’t get the opportunity to win it.”

Nani only completed his transfer yesterday and had not been expected to play, but made a huge impact off the bench.

This is a return to Serie A for the former Manchester United player, because he few remember the 35-year-old had a one-season spell at Lazio in 2017-18.

“I was a little nervous, as I haven’t had many training sessions and am not in the best shape, but when you want to do well, it goes your way.

“Serie A is the best, I think this a fantastic moment to play here. I need to practice my Italian a bit, it’s been a while!”
