Radja Nainggolan is reportedly pushing for a return to his old club Cagliari after being frozen out by Inter.

The 31-year-old only moved from Roma to San Siro last summer in a deal worth €38m plus Nicolò Zaniolo going the other way.

He has been told in no uncertain terms that he is not part of Antonio Conte’s plans for the new season, so he received offers from China and Serie A outfit Sampdoria.

He has been told in no uncertain terms that he is not part of Antonio Conte’s plans for the new season, so he received offers from China and Serie A outfit Sampdoria.

However, Sky Sport Italia note a romantic return to Cagliari is on the cards, the club where he played from January 2010 to 2014.

Nainggolan has many reasons for choosing Sardinia, including the opportunity for his wife – who was recently diagnosed with cancer – to spend time with her family.

They met while he was playing for Cagliari and is from the region.

The Sardinians just sold Nicolò Barella to Inter for €40m plus up to €10m in performance-related bonuses.
