Radja Nainggolan admits he ‘had everything I ever wanted at Roma’ and that included being allowed to party off the field, whereas at Inter ‘they got on my case about everything.’

The Belgian midfielder spent most of his career in Serie A with Piacenza, Cagliari, Roma and Inter.

He moved to San Siro in the summer of 2018 in a huge €38m deal, which included an exchange with then unknown Nicoló Zaniolo going the other way.

It lasted only one season, making 41 appearances with seven goals and three assists.

“The truth is that Roma changed my life. I had everything I ever wanted to be happy at Roma,” Nainggolan told the podcast Caffettino.

“I had a strong team, I earned well, the fans adored me, I had a city where you could enjoy yourself the way I wanted to. And they didn’t get on my t**s, they told me I could do what I wanted off the field, as long as I gave my all when I played. I had found my place at Roma.

“Then I went to Inter and they got on my case about everything, from the club to the fans. I did not feel at ease there.”

He left the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2021 for Royal Antwerp, but they were no more inclined to put up with his lifestyle than Inter were, as he was released for smoking on the touchline.

A brief six-month spell in Serie B with SPAL followed, but he is now a free agent at the age of 35.
