“We believed, as we played well in the first half and created so many chances. It hurts to lose like this,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“Manolas, Holebas, Gervinho and Ljajic, we had so many opportunities. We knew it’d be tougher if we conceded, which we did.

“We lost to a great team and now we have to focus everything on the Scudetto and try to go as far as possible in the Europa League.

“We’re out of the best tournament, but I think we’ve had a good campaign, as nobody would’ve said at the draw we would be challenging for qualification at the final game.”

It had been nicknamed the ‘Group of Death,’ as it included champions of Germany Bayern Munich, of England Manchester City and of Russia CSKA Moscow.
