Inter's Yuto Nagatomo has revealed that he digests a pre-match nibble of salted plums to maintain his energy levels.

The dynamic full-back, signed from Cesena in January, made the claim fresh from scoring his first goal for his new club in the 5-2 demolition of Genoa.

"I always eat salted plums before every game," he stated. "They are rich in citric acid and they help you battle tiredness."

Known as umeboshi, the plums are used in oriental cooking and have been around for 3000 years.
