Former Fiorentina star Adrian Mutu is reportedly set to take charge of Romanian side Astra Giurgiu, in his first coaching role.

Calciomercato.it cites Press reports in Romania, which claim Mutu has been chosen to replace Edi Iordanescu.

Astra won the Romanian title in 2014-15 and beat West Ham United in the Europa League playoffs twice, but they have started the new campaign with back-to-back defeats.

Mutu, who has been working for the Romanian Football Federation, is expected to be assisted by another Coach, given he lacks the necessary licence for managing in Liga I.

The 39-year-old played for Inter, Verona, Parma, Juventus and Fiorentina in Italy but is best remembered for scoring 54 goals in 112 appearances for the latter.
