Argentina international goalkeeper Juan Musso admits he was inspired to join Atalanta largely so he wouldn’t have to keep facing them. ‘They were the team I feared the most.’

The shot-stopper was one of the most expensive signings in the history of the club, as he was purchased over the summer for €20m.

“The transfer market was depressed by the pandemic and Atalanta are not accustomed to spending certain figures, so I do feel enormous responsibility,” Musso told La Nacion newspaper in Argentina while on international duty.

“With that kind of money, Atalanta could’ve signed anybody, but they chose me.”

It seems Musso also had an ulterior motive for choosing to join La Dea – that he wouldn’t have to face them anymore.

“They scored tons against us every time we faced them. Atalanta were the team I feared the most. Once they put seven past us, another four, then three…

“I think Luis Muriel alone put eight goals past me in five games. When I realised they were tracking me, I told my agent to keep a close eye on the situation.

“People might not call Atalanta a big club, but in my view they play like one. We don’t fear anyone.”
