Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera lends his support to colleague Thomas Strakosha after a howler cost Lazio in the Europa League. ‘I made a similar mistake.’

Europa League | Galatasaray 1-0 Lazio: Strakosha howler is a gift

The opening group game ended 1-0 in Istanbul and was decided by Strakosha accidentally pushing the ball into his own net from 5cm when he was trying to cushion a misplaced clearance over the bar.

“If you look at it carefully, I made a similar mistake a few games ago,” assured former Lazio shot-stopper Muslera on Sozcu.com.tr.

“These things can happen, goalkeepers are alone out there and our mistakes are not forgiven. That is the danger of playing in this role.”

Muslera tried to reassure Albania international Strakosha, who was making his first appearance of the season after losing his place to Pepe Reina.

“It’s part of the job and we must continue without letting our heads drop. We cannot give up.”

  1. Inexcusable , Italian teams need to stop playing secondary players and take the Europa and champions league serious . It’s a disgrace the walking , slow tempo garbage. Misplaced passes, confusion , no ambition or drive to win . Disgrace

  2. that popped up ball heading for crossbar was so routine simple to deal with and Strakosha treated it as such and totally murphys law’d it into goal. shame cuz he was a solid keeper til he lost his place to Reina …now i see why.

blob has point…Italian teams seem to constantly fail in europa/CL. even top teams like JUVE (when knocked into europa) ROMA ACM NAPOLI have not even made it to final/ knocked out by lesser teams for far too long. its kinda embarassing specially for serie A on a whole.
