The centre-back had struggled for playing time since Simon Kjaer arrived in January 2020 and moved to Lazio this week.

“This is a very important opportunity for me,” he said at a press conference. “I’m very happy to be here.

“I feel good physically, I arrive at this club with desire and hunger, I’m ready to give my best.”

Musacchio explained he didn’t need much time to accept a move to Lazio and is enthusiastic about the next chapter in his career.

“When the call from my agent came, presenting me with the possibility of arriving here, I spoke to my family and said yes in two minutes.

“They are a very strong team. The championship is tough, there are many well-equipped teams but we can do something nice, always taking one game at a time.

“Sunday’s match is the most important of them all.”

Musacchio needs to adapt to a three-man defence at Lazio.

“At Milan, we played with a different formation and in Italy we talk a lot about tactics, but in football the important thing is to go on the pitch with attitude and desire.

“I’m a footballer who always aims to improve.”
