Luis Muriel has been been awarded the Europa League Player of the Week title after his decisive performance against Bayer Leverkusen.

The 30-year-old Colombian forward had a flying game against the German side, netting a brace and providing one assist as Gian Piero Gasperini’s side picked up a 3-2 win in Bergamo. It was an important evening for Muriel as his 2022 has been a little dry, only netting three times since the new year prior to the game across all competitions.

As announced by UFEA, Muriel’s brace and strong performance saw him win the title as the Europa League Player of the Week, rewarding his impressive play at the Gewiss Stadium.

The Colombian forward beat off competition from Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, Sevilla full back Marcos Acuña and Rangers right back James Tavernier.

Atalanta’s return leg against Bayer Leverkusen will take place at the BayArena on March 17 at 17.45 UK time, an important fixture in their season.
