“As I said when I arrived, my objective was first to get regular football, play consistently and get back into the national team, so I am happy to be called up for the Copa America,” he told Samp TV.

“If we qualify for Europe, then I will come straight back and skip a summer vacation. Holidays don’t matter when you have achievements like that.
“We lacked some determination against Lazio, so at Empoli we need to pick up three points and earn a place in Europe.
“Over the final two games we are facing teams who have no more motivation, so our motivation has to make the difference. We cannot throw away the whole season.
“On a personal level, I still have a lot to prove and I’m only just starting to play regularly after a long time on the bench. I’ve found my confidence and the Coach trusts me, so I must continue improving.”
