Luis Muriel reveals what ‘impressed’ him the most about Real Madrid after Atalanta bowed out of the Champions League.
La Dea reached the Champions League Round of 16 in both their participations, but ultimately couldn’t compete with the quality and experience of the Merengues, especially with some costly errors.
Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos returned after missing the first leg and both were on target here along with Marco Asensio, while Luis Muriel’s free kick was scant consolation.
“We conceded that early goal with an error and it really hit our confidence,” confessed Muriel to Sky Sport Italia.
“It’s a pity, because we gave away two goals with our errors and that really knocked the wind out of our sails.
“What impressed me the most was the pressing they used on us and also the calm they had when playing, which was remarkable considering this is a club that had a lot to lose and would run into a lot of trouble if they were eliminated. It impressed me.”
Now Atalanta can focus on finishing in the top four of Serie A for the third year running.
“We are growing as a club and want to continue growing. These games will help us players and Atalanta as a club to develop.
“That was our objective, to play well in the Champions League and try to go as far as possible.”
