Germany’s Thomas Müller doesn’t expect the game with Italy to end in tears this time.

The Azzurri meet the world champions at Euro 2016 on Saturday, having beaten them in the semi-final in 2012.

“I was quite disappointed in 2012,” Müller told Bild.

“I came on during the game and ended it in tears. There’s no shame in crying though, especially because there will be no tears in 2016.

“I’m optimistic for Saturday, we can get through again. It’ll be a difficult game, but it’s doable. We’ve shown that we’re ready for these knockout games.

“Our defence is solid and there’s unity in the team – the Quarters-Final won’t be the last game for us.”

Müller was also asked about Italy’s famous BBC defence – Andrea Barzagli, Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

“They’re all magnificent in the Italian defence which is based on the Juventus bloc, but they’re not impregnable.

“This Euros has shown that every defence has vulnerabilities, so that’s also true for the Italian one.”
