In reflecting on the season the Old Lady has enjoyed, Cobolli Gigli believes that keeping hold of the 44-year-old will key to ambitions of bridging the gap in European competition that recent seasons have shown.

“Gianluigi Buffon has expressed the right words, that I agree with completely,” Cobolli Gigli has assessed to TuttoJuve today.

“The Bianconero No 1 is the symbol of this winning team, a true champion on and off the field. I agree with him particularly in his words on the European chapter, to which Juventus still have a deficit.

“There is still something to reach the level of the biggest clubs in Europe, the club will have to work hard on this.

“What needs to be done? I think that the directors are already assessing the various technical aspects, but we must understand what the will of the Coach is.

“I think that the discourse with Antonio Conte will not end until they have ‘closed the deal’ with Europe.

“Along with the Coach they will make the appropriate technical assessments, it will depend also on movements in midfield and those who may leave.”
