According to the Corriere dello Sport, the player Jose Mourinho blamed for their draw with Sassuolo was Rick Karsdorp. ‘I told him that in January he needs to find himself a new club.’

The coach was livid after the 1-1 stalemate at the Mapei Stadium, as Tammy Abraham had opened the scoring with a strong header, only for Andrea Pinamonti to equalise five minutes later.

Mourinho’s reaction dominated the coverage of the game, in both his interview with DAZN and in the press conference.

“I am sorry that the efforts of the team were betrayed by the attitude of one unprofessional player. You didn’t see me talking that way about Roger Ibanez against Lazio, because errors are part of the game, his attitude was never a problem.

“An unprofessional attitude that is not fair to his teammates, that is what disappoints me. I had 16 players on the field tonight and I liked the attitude of 15 of them. I told the other than he had this attitude today only and not always. Now we want to close this period of the season with three points.

“In January, he needs to find himself another club.”

Mourinho refused to say who this player was, but the Corriere dello Sport claims it is Dutch full-back Karsdorp.

He came on as a substitute for Zeki Celik and lost several challenges, misplaced crosses and did not defend well when Armand Laurienté broke away to set up Pinamonti.

He can be seen in the clip below, wearing the Number 2 jersey and practically stopping his run back.

Karsdorp is under contract until June 2025 and first joined Roma from Feyenoord in 2017 for €16m.

  1. its wrong what is the point of having 3 center backs if fullbacks have to defend on every play? man got in behind karsdrop but Mancini was late to cover and then same happened with Smalling he wasn’t close enough to Pinamoni to try to make things difficult for him on top of that Pinamoni shot was right above Patricio head it is close and it is hard to save but if there is a chance to save a shot like that its there it was right above his head… So everyone on that play made number of mistakes…

  2. Mou is his own worst enemy at times. What good will come out of this. He coached great teams and now this Roma have strengthened which was a big surprise but the only real enemy is himself.

  3. Yes, Nick,
when there are only 5 minutes left and your team leads 1-0, the fullbacks need to defend every play! EVERYONE needs to sacrifice and give their all.
