A new year means a new start in the Eternal City and Jose Mourinho’s Roma have a clear goal in mind for 2024.

The Giallorossi struggled to find their footing in the early stages of the season but in recent months have recovered, only falling in frustrating defeats to Juventus, Inter and Bologna. As a result, the team sit on the cusp of the European spots, five points behind fourth place Fiorentina.

Mourinho has proved entertaining as ever in the Roma dugout, continuing to be a favourite amongst supporters and onlookers alike with his passionate displays on the pitch and barbed comments to the media off of it, but his future is still shrouded in doubt heading into 2024.

The Special One has just six months left on his contract with the Giallorossi and is not close to signing a new deal. Whilst he’s open to staying, the Portuguese coach has never spent more than three consecutive seasons with the same club, so he’d be entering uncharted territory.

Despite the doubts, there’s only one thing in Mourinho and Roma’s minds entering 2024 – returning to the Champions League. The club haven’t competed in Europe’s premier club competition since the 2019-20 campaign and are desperate to finally return, allowing them access to the European riches.
