Roma boss José Mourinho is desperate to sign Alvaro Morata and is sending signals to the club through social media.

The Atletico Madrid forward is said to be Mourinho’s primary target to strengthen the attack in 2023-24.

On Thursday, on the 19th anniversary of Didier Drogba’s move to Chelsea, Mourinho shared a picture with the Ivorian legend, writing: “20 July 2004 I signed this striker. He couldn’t score, he couldn’t work, he couldn’t fight, he couldn’t lead. I was lucky to win 3 premier leagues with this guy. Forever one of my gang.”

It’s probably not a coincidence that Morata liked the picture, but according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho sent more social media hints over the last few days.

Mourinho has recently posted a picture of himself eating a blackberry popsicle and another one that shows him sweating in his office. The Rome-based paper claims those were not random pictures, as both are directly linked to the potential signing of Morata.

The Italian name for blackberry is ‘Mora’, the abbreviation of Morata, while the second picture shows No.19 on the top right, Morata’s squad number at Atletico Madrid.

The Colchoneros won’t sell the Spaniard for less than his €21m release clause, but Roma can’t afford to pay as much and according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Mourinho is pushing for the Friedkin to put the money needed to sign the ex-Juventus and Real Madrid forward.

Inter met Morata’s agent last week, making an opening verbal offer to Atletico Madrid worth €15m.
