Mourinho has admitted that Juventus may not sell, and has two other options in mind, but after a friendly defeat to Borussia Dortmund he underlined the need for a midfielder.

“We are completely convinced of our market,” the Portuguese told reporters in Shanghai.

“Our market is four players – one central defender, one midfielder, one striker and one creative player and when we finish that fundamental market, we are balanced.

“Today we had no [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic, no [Marouane] Fellaini, no [Anthony] Martial, no [Morgan] Schneiderlin. So lots of them that are not here yet.

“The market will be open until August 31 and sometimes things happen that you are not expecting and you have to react.

“But we are 75% of the way there and when we sign one midfielder, the crucial work will be done.”
