Jose Mourinho’s sending off in the fiery affair between Cremonese and Roma on Tuesday evening means that the Portuguese has accumulated more red cards than any other player or coach in Serie A this season.

Mourinho’s latest outburst came at the beginning of the second half at the Stadio Giovanni Zini, for which he will now serve a two-game suspension.

The Giallorossi coach became involved in a heated exchange with the fourth official, Marco Serra, which led to his dismissal.

In his comments after the match, Mourinho claimed that he could take legal action against Serra, citing the fact that he is from Turin and Roma have to play Juventus on Sunday.

This was, of course, not the first time that Mourinho has seen red in more ways than one in Serie A this season.

He was also sent off in the 89th minute of Roma’s 1-1 draw with Torino in November 2022 after his self-professed comments to the referee “in the heat of the moment.”

In September, Mourinho was also dismissed during an eventual 1-0 loss to Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico.

As well as his three red cards so far this season, Mourinho has also been cautioned a further three times, in matches against Udinese, Napoli and most recently against Hellas Verona in Roma’s second-most recent Serie A fixture.

No other player or manager in the league has been sent off as many times this season.

Of the players, only Atalanta’s Luis Muriel, as well as Empoli’s Jean-Daniel Akpa-Akpro and Sebastiano Luperto, have been shown a red card more than once throughout the 2022-23 campaign.
