Roma boss José Mourinho has reportedly asked the club to bring in a new striker and another centre midfielder following Nemanja Matic’s move to the Stadio Olimpico.

The former Manchester United midfielder is undergoing his medical with the Giallorossi and will sign a one-year deal in the capital today.

Mourinho wants to get a top-four finish next season and, according to Il Corriere dello Sport, he has identified two priorities for the Giallorossi in the summer: a striker and a new central midfielder.

Eldor Shomurodov’s first season in the capital was highly disappointing as he only netted three goals across all competitions. Therefore, Roma have now set their sights on Austria international Sasa Kalajdzic, who scored a goal against Italy during last summer’s Euros.

He is contracted with Stuttgart until June 2023. He could either play with Tammy Abraham or be a backup for the England international.

He is not the only striker monitored by the Giallorossi. Dries Mertens has been linked with a move to the capital, but both Roma and Mourinho are not entirely convinced of signing the Belgium international because of his age and wages requests.

Sassuolo‘s Davide Frattesi is Roma’s priority in midfield. The Italy international, a product of the club’s academy, is open to returning to the club and talks between Roma and Sassuolo have already begun.

Sassuolo value their midfielder at €30m, but the Giallorossi hope to lower their demands given that the Neroverdi owe them €30% of any future sale of the 22-year-old. Salernitana‘s Ederson is also on Roma’s radars, but the Granata want at least €20m.
