There is confusion about what happened after the final whistle of Roma’s defeat to Napoli, with Jose Mourinho insisting Rick Karsdorp was not sent off and Hirving Lozano ‘attacked one of my men.’

Following the end of the match, some scuffles broke out between players and members of staff, with a video that showed referee Massimiliano Irrati brandishing the red card.

It was assumed that he had aimed it at Roma wing-back Karsdorp, who then argued with the referee, seeming to accuse Irrati of treading on his foot.

However, Mourinho tried to clarify the chaos in his post-match press conference.

“I think it was my fitness coach who was sent off, but Irrati got it wrong because Lozano attacked one of my men.”

Marash Kumbulla was certainly involved in some sort of altercation with Lozano, while Leonardo Spinazzola was trying to separate them.

The official Lega Serie A report does not show any red card for Karsdorp, so that would suggest it was a member of Mourinho’s staff who was dismissed.

It certainly wouldn’t be the first time, as Mourinho and various members of his entourage have regularly been sent off from the touchline this season.

Mourinho also criticised Lozano in his post-match interview with DAZN, pretending not to remember the Mexico international’s name, instead calling him “the guy who dives all the time. You know, the one who is always throwing himself to the ground. Lozano! That’s it.”
