The tactician flew in this morning at Linate Airport to attend tonight’s Serie A game with Sampdoria at San Siro.

“I hadn’t been back here since 2010, only at the stadium when Real Madrid played Milan in the Champions League,” Mou told reporters.

“Eating with my President and Mrs Moratti, their children… it’s a fantastic sensation. I never disguised the fact the best year of my career was at Inter. Life is like that, but I always remained close to Massimo Moratti.

“We always promised to get together. Now that I am not working, there is the opportunity to do things I never had the chance to before.

“I hope to return to London afterwards happy not just that I spent time with friends, but for an Inter victory too.”

The Special One also hit out at reports Manchester United owners made a panicked call to get him in after fearing Mou would opt for the Inter job instead.

“This is my ex-club, but not my ex-team, seeing as none of the players I had in 2010 remain. But Inter is Inter, the Interisti are Interisti.

“I always say you arrive at Inter as a professional and leave as an Interista. This is the power of Moratti. I am an Interista, but I repeat that I do not want any speculation.

“I will not be the Coach of Inter next year and they didn’t ask me to either. Perhaps I will be in future, why not? I already went back to Chelsea after a previous spell there.

“But Inter have a project with Roberto Mancini and I hope it goes well. I don’t want to close the door for the future, as in football you never can tell, especially if you already had joy and a fantastic rapport with the club. But this is not the right time yet.”

Mourinho was naturally asked about the Manchester United job.

“Am I talking to Manchester United? I’m talking to you,” he told reporters. “I hadn’t talked to you for a while and it seemed only right to stop and chat.

“I want to relax and not comment on these things. I am not looking for a club, I await a call. It’s logical. But now I have the pleasure of doing things I normally can’t because of time constraints.”
