Jose Mourinho reveals winning the Conference League with Roma made him feel like never before. ‘I am much less egocentric now.’
The coach who famously dubbed himself ‘The Special One’ at Chelsea had some humbling experiences in recent years at Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.
He rediscovered his mojo in Italy, where he had won the historic Treble with Inter in 2010, taking Roma to victory in the Europa Conference League.
“It made me feel something that perhaps I had never felt before. It was like our Champions League,” Mourinho told students at the University of Lisbon.
“I am much less egocentric now, I’ve become a person to lives more for others than for myself.”
There were parties in the streets after that victory, the first time the Giallorossi had won any silverware since 2008 and their first ever UEFA tournament.
As for the 59-year-old, he burst into tears after securing the 1-0 Final result over Feyenoord in Tirana.
However, Mourinho did admit that some of the players who participated in that campaign would not be there next season.
Sergio Oliveira arrived on loan from FC Porto in January with option to buy for €13m, a figure Roma have no intention of paying.
“If Porto want to loan him to us, I will personally bring him back to Rome myself. If it’s about buying him, then I don’t know if my credit card will cover that…” replied Mourinho when asked about the 30-year-old’s status.
“He was very important this season, we share many principles you need to work on in football and helped me to transmit that message to the others. He set the example we needed.
“I would like him to stay, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Mourinho: “La Conference mi ha fatto sentire come mai prima d’ora. Oliveira? Mi piacerebbe che restasse”

to be honest – he has earnt his ‘arrogance’. But it’s also good to see he is mellowing.
Roma are perennial chokers. But now they have won a cup!
Shockingly, the last Serie A team to win any European trophy was Mourinho’s Inter. Mourinho takes competition seriously – whether it’s the CL, the national cup or the Tuscan Cup. He’ll play to win.
He hasnt mellowed lol, he is full of bull
