Jose Mourinho seemingly watched Roma’s 1-0 win over Spezia from the team bus, as he sat out a touchline ban, but at least didn’t hide in a laundry basket again the way he did at Chelsea.

The coach is suspended for two Serie A matches after insulting the referee, but was nowhere to be seen in the VIP box at the Stadio Alberto Picco this evening.

DAZN, who were covering the game for Italian media, did not spot the tactician anywhere inside the stadium throughout.

Mou seemed to reveal the secret afterwards, as he posted on his Instagram Stories an image of himself standing with director Tiago Pinto – who is also suspended – outside the Roma team bus.

As DAZN is a streaming service, it would appear Mourinho preferred to watch the game inside the bus, so he could communicate by phone with his staff on the bench in relative peace.

It is at least an advance on the time Mourinho confessed he hid in the laundry basket to avoid a UEFA ban and give a team talk in the locker room ahead of Chelsea’s Champions League match against Bayern Munich in 2005.

“I go to the dressing room during the day so I was there from midday and the game is seven o’clock. I just want to be in the dressing room when the players arrive,” Mourinho told beIN Sports.

“I went there and nobody saw me. The problem was to leave after. And Stewart Bannister the kit man put me in the basket. It was a little bit open so I could breathe.

“But when he is taking it outside the dressing room, the UEFA guys were following and desperate to find me so he closed the box and I couldn’t breathe! When he opened the box I was dying! I am serious! I was claustrophobic, I promise! It’s true!”
