Former Serie A defender Daniele Adani believes José Mourinho ‘has caused some problems’ at Roma and Ainsley Maitland-Niles ‘won’t make the difference’ in the capital.

According to Italian sports papers, the English defender was one of Roma’s worst players in their 3-4 loss against Juventus on Sunday.

The Arsenal loanee arrived at the Stadio Olimpico on Friday and had only trained with his new team once before making his Serie A debut against the Bianconeri.

Mourinho accused Roma players of having a weak mentality after their loss against Juventus, but Adani believes the Special One has responsibility for the team’s results this season.

“Mourinho is right when he says that the team has personality issues, but we must say that he hasn’t handled things properly,” the former Inter and Fiorentina defender said during the Twitch show Bobo TV.

“He could have caused some problems as well with some statements and I don’t think new signings will help much.

“Maitland-Niles won’t make the difference, but I don’t think he was the main problem against Juventus.”

“I’ve followed Sergio Oliveira for ten years. He is a good player, but I don’t think he can revamp Roma,” Adani concluded.

Oliveira is expected to land in Rome in the coming days, completing an initial loan move from Porto.

  1. When Jose praises them he didn’t cause problem but he talks about the obvious U criticised him for his comment. Klopp have complains about match officials, his players attitude and mentality, no complaint. U people should stop the hate, it isn’t going to hurt Mourinho bcos even if Roma sacks him, he will get a bigger job. He has been proved right at Man united, about to be proved right at spurs, learn and drop ur hate on Jose.

  2. Absolutely spot on Jay Bangz!!! The media love to call out Mourinho, but ignore other managers who do the same weekly!! They say he had a bad tenure at United but he has been the most successful manager post Sir Alex, with a much worse team then they have now!! With Spurs he had them top of the league in mid December, until the players sulked and quit playing for him because he demanded to much!! Just ask Harry Kane how much he appreciated Jose, but the media only look to destabilize Jose and his players by writing this crap!!!

  3. Spot on Mike & Jay. Jose’s only crime was to be better than his betters. Imagine the cheek! A translator to win champions leagues and and other trophies with sides that are not owned by media moguls, or loved UEFA and allowed to get away with whatever they like etc. Of course the press will hate him.

  4. Revamping a major club is as easy as a building Rome in a day… ahh not really.
The owners seems to have confidence in making the club a contender but can they spend enough to do so?
Roma‘s problems are defence, confidence and consistency. The mental errors can be addressed by better players and discipline which is lacking. The team often folds at the first sign of difficulty and collapses as they did vs Juve.It has happened before. How does a manager give players the confidence to withstand this weakness. More talent? yes they need an upgrade but players must believe they can compete and win. Jose know that come from within a player, a very difficult thing to teach …it’s not the mountain we conquer but ourselves….. Easy to say, tough to do.

  5. Mourinho speaks only words of gold, best coach ever. Speaks his mind and doesn’t play head games. First person that complained about all the monkey bus back in Iberia and so just on that alone he’s a grand patriot even.
