Roma have declared a media blackout in protest at Jose Mourinho’s two-match touchline ban, but the coach took to social media to send a message – harking back to his most famous Inter gesture.
The tactician was sent off during the 2-1 defeat to Cremonese following a row with fourth official Marco Serra.
He accused Serra of insulting him, prompting the furious response, and after the ban was suspended on appeal, it was today confirmed.
That means Mourinho will be banned from the bench against Sassuolo and Derby della Capitale rivals Lazio.
Roma are refusing to let any of their players or staff speak to the media for the rest of the Serie A season in protest, so Mourinho took to Instagram with a not too subtle message.
“Thanks a lot adidas, hublot and Matilde jewellery,” was the caption, for an image of Mou standing with his wrists crossed over.
It harked back to the legendary gesture Mourinho made while he was on the touchline at Inter over a decade ago, protesting a refereeing decision that saw two of his players sent off by showing himself manacled with ‘handcuffs’ to the crowd and cameras.
Even in silence, Mourinho always knows how to get his message across.
