José Mourinho and Paulo Dybala are among those who sent social media messages to Gonzalo Higuain after the Argentinean striker announced his retirement.

The former Juventus, Napoli and Milan forward will hang his boots after the final two years of his career at Inter Miami in the MLS.

Juventus have paid tribute to El Pipita on Instagram by sharing what’s arguably his most important goal for the club.

Milan and Napoli, on the other hand, ignored the 34-year-old. Higuain only spent six months at San Siro, but his time in Naples was way more productive, considering that he even set a new record for goals scored in a single Serie A campaign (36 in 2015-16).

Mourinho and Dybala, now at Roma, took their official social media accounts to salute the striker.

Higuain scored 57 goals in 123 games under the Special One at Real Madrid and played with Dybala for Juventus and Argentina.

“You are great on and off the pitch; thanks for your football,” wrote the Argentinean striker in an Instagram story.

Claudio Marchisio, Leonardo Bonucci, Alex Sandro, Juan Cuadrado and Sami Khedira also sent a message to El Pipita on social media while Juventus boss Max Allegri praised his ex-striker at a press conference today.

Bonucci: ‘One of the greatest No.9 in football. A friend and a great person with a big heart. Thanks, Pipa. Those who love football will miss you. Good luck with the next chapter of your career.

Marchisio: ‘A true No.9. A formidable striker and a great person. It was a pleasure to win and play with you. I wish you all the best.’
